Using the Correct Browser
Browsers are just as important as your devices when it comes to Canvas. You will need to know which browsers Canvas supports, how to update them, and the requirements for some features that Canvas supports.
Supported Browsers
Canvas supports the current and first previous major releases of the following browsers:
- Edge 79 and 80
- Safari 12 and 13 (Macintosh only)
- Chrome 79 and 80
- Firefox 73 and 74 (Extended Releases Links to an external site. are not supported)
- Respondus Lockdown Browser (supporting the latest system requirements Links to an external site.)

We highly recommend updating to the most current version of your preferred browser. Your browser will notify you if there is a new version available.
You can also use WhatIsMyBrowser.com Links to an external site. to know what browser you are using and if it is up-to-date.
Internet Explorer is no longer supported by Canvas.
Some supported browsers may still produce a banner stating Your browser does not meet the minimum requirements for Canvas. If you have upgraded your browser, but you are still seeing the warning banner, try logging out of Canvas and deleting your browser cookies.
Browser Updates
If your browser does not update automatically, you can download your preferred browser in the browser's download page:

- If you have previously downloaded Respondus Lockdown Browser to take the MATH Placement Test, you'll need to uninstall that browser and install the link provided by your instructor in a quiz. You only need to download the link once.
Required Components
The Java plug-in Links to an external site. is required for screen sharing in Conferences. Please note that some browsers do not support Java. Otherwise, there are no other browser plug-ins used by Canvas.
JavaScript must be enabled to run Canvas.
