Canvas Setting Up Your Profile and Notification Preferences

In your Account section on the blue, global navigation, you can update your profile to include your profile picture, and if you desire, your bio. Many instructors will have this area updated with their information. Additionally, Canvas provides a set of default notifications for many actions in Canvas. In this section, you'll learn how to update your profile information and set your notifications to meet your preferences.

User Settings

This video provides information based on Canvas' default settings. Some of these settings may not apply at HCC, such as the ability to change your name (see below).

If you wish to change your name in Canvas, it must also be changed with the institution by sending an email to registration when your name has legally changed. It may take a few days for the change to be reflected in Canvas.

Notifications

Staying informed with course due dates, communications, and events is important for any college student. Canvas provides default notification settings in your Account area. This video tutorial provides the steps to adjust your notification settings to meet your preferences and needs.
